Most upholstered headboards are now available in a range of custom designs, colours and fabrics, allowing customers to personalise the appearance and feel of their headboard.
One of the most popular fabrics on the market today is luxury Chenille, an incredibly soft fabric with an iridescent sheen. Chenille has been manufactured on a commercial scale since the 1970s when it made a return to the fashion mainstream, but the origins of the design process can be traced right back to the 18thCentury.
Chenille has found much favour with interior designers due to its distinctive touch and feel, and nowadays it is used in a wide variety of applications including clothing, upholstery, curtains, throws and blankets.
The word chenille means ‘caterpillar’ in French and refers to the fuzzy caterpillar-like appearance of the yarn from which the fabric is woven. The yarn is made by spinning together shorter lengths of yarn called ‘pile’ and ‘core.’ These pieces of yarn are normally made from cotton, but it is also possible to find acrylic, rayon and olefin varieties.
To make the yarn the ‘pile,’ a very thin filament-like fibre, is placed between two much stronger pieces of highly twisted yarn, the ‘core,’ before being twisted together.
This spinning process was traditionally performed by hand, resulting in a fabric with highly variable characteristics. In the 1990s the introduction of a mechanised manufacturing process and the formation of the Chenille strong inflatable material International Manufacturers Association (CIMA) now mean that modern Chenille meets consistently high standards of quality.
One of the most unique and desirable characteristics of the fabric is its iridescent quality, also called the ‘reflection effect.’ When viewed from different angles the light reflected by the fabric will constantly change, producing a beautiful shimmering and glistening effect.
Chenille-finishupholstered headboardsare particularly attractive in rooms that employ a lot of natural light as this helps accentuate the ‘reflection effect’ described above. The wide variety of dyed-finish colours now available also gives homeowners even more options when it comes to personalizing their headboards. You will have a choice of colours including black, brown, champagne, charcoal, duck egg and willow.

Christophe Philippe Oberkampf was of German decent and lived in France for the vast Majority of his life where he trained in the art of color mixing and fabric. He formed a partnership with some Swiss industrialists and founded a factory in the French countryside that had a good clean source of water nearby because he had plans to revolutionize the cloth making industry. He used toile fabric to print his original designs onto material but it was a long slow labor intensive process. The material was hand printed using wooden blocks that had the pattern expertly cut into them.
It was only when a new system was developed using a large copperplate printing roller that the toile fabric could be produced in greater quantities and started to reach more people. It was decided to that the process could be adapted to print on paper China Pvc Waterproof Polyester Manufacturers and thus the factory also started producing wallpaper. The designs were very intricate and because copper plate rollers were used the lines could be engraved onto the printing plate were finer allowing greater detail.
